Most couples spend more time deciding what to watch tonight than deciding, on purpose, where the next ten years of their life are actually going.

Left on default, here's what tends to happen instead:

  • The "someday" goals stay someday

  • You find out your partner's been dreaming about a big goal you never even knew about

  • You say yes to whatever comes up, instead of what you actually wanted

  • The exciting stuff keeps losing to whatever's urgent this week

  • You wake up years later wondering where the time went

On purpose, or by default

Proof it works

For the past six years, my husband and I have run our own Couple's Planning Retreat. Here's some of what's come out of it:

Our first investment property purchased: one of those small wealth building steps that originally felt like just a “someday” wish.

Completing a full gut job renovation of our home: exactly the kind of project that can quietly end a marriage, and instead it strengthened our foundation (pun very much intended).

Major career pivots, for both of us: planned instead of panicked into. No living off savings or pulling back on the things we love to make it happen.

About me

Hi, I'm Kara. I spent over 15 years in the corporate world, managing projects and teams. Turns out that same planning instinct works just as well on a marriage as it does on a business.

My husband and I have been married for over a decade, and for the past six years, we've run our own version of this Couples Planning Retreat every year. It's how we've accomplished some of our wildest goals together, and it's kept our communication and commitment growing stronger with every year that's passed. (And yes, we definitely get teased that we run our relationship like a corporate boardroom. But hey, it works.)

We live in Salt Lake City with our very spoiled poodle. When I'm not planning our next big life goal, you'll find me visiting Nashville any chance I get, singing Taylor Swift at the top of my lungs, or in my kitchen perfecting the most delectable cookie recipes. I'd love to teach you how to build a life you love with your person!

(Also, yes, this is us eating some VERY old frozen wedding cake. I’m a sucker for traditions.)

I'll teach you the entire planning framework my husband and I use every year to plan an intentional life together. Six years of real lessons, mistakes included.

Here's what we'll cover:

Why including your partner in your planning changes everything

What sharing your goals out loud reveals, even after years together

How to build a plan together that you'll actually stick to

How to keep the momentum going all year, not just for one weekend

The retreat logistics that make or break whether this actually works

What happens during our session

Who is this for?

All couples are welcome here

Married, engaged, long-term partners, however you'd describe your person. Bring whoever you’re doing life with.

Not a substitute for therapy

I'm not a therapist, and this isn't couples counseling. If something bigger surfaces during our time together, I'll say so plainly and point you toward the right kind of help. What this is: a practical framework, taught by someone who's used it in her own marriage for over six years.

Solo attendance is absolutely allowed

Still getting your partner on board with this kind of planning? I can help. Attend solo, and I'll record the session for you to share, plus walk you through my recommendations for getting them excited to plan together.

The Couples Retreat Framework

The structure that turns into a yearly ritual you look forward to, not a one-time fix.

Why plan together

Better communication, built-in support, and no surprises down the road.

Share, ask real questions, and align on what matters most.

#4

Build your plan

Turn what you both want into a clear plan you can actually follow through on.

What you get

A pre-session exercise to get you both excited about what's possible before we even start

A 90-minute live teaching session with me (recorded, so an absent spouse doesn't miss out), covering the full framework with time for your questions along the way

The complete set of worksheets to run your own real retreat day

Four quarterly check-in emails to keep you on track throughout the year

My promise to you

Attend the session, and if you don't love it, email me within a week for a full refund*. No hoops, no argument.

$99

Limited spots available.

* Sessions are non-refundable for no-shows. Please give at least 24 hours' notice to reschedule.

When the session is over, I'll stick with you

You don't just walk away with a plan and never hear from me again. After the session, I'll check in quarterly with a gentle nudge to revisit your goals, additional resources to keep the conversation going, and a reminder that the plan only works if you keep coming back to it.
